Vocabulary & Phrases :
1. Orwellian -
Used to describe
a political system in which the government tries to control every part
of people's lives, similar to that described in the novel "Nineteen
Eighty Four", by George Orwell.
We don't want to see a 1984 Orwellian type situation where neighbours are reporting on neighbours.
2. Depict -
To represent or show something in a picture or story
In the film, he is able to depict the sense of otherness and alienation that many teenagers feel.
3.Tyranny -
Government
by a ruler or small group of people who have unlimited power over the
people in their country or state and use it unfairly and cruelly:
One of the most dangerous of all tyrannies is to prevent a person from leaving a country to work and live abroad
My thoughts upon this TED Talk :
Well first this Talk is not like a speech, it's like a brief explanation on the word "Orwellian".
From Orwell's work, Orwellian
usually stand for Authoritarian. But what it truly means is deceptive
and manipulative use of languages. In nowadays modern society, social
media and news are the resources that most people receive information.
But we all need to pay attention on what words and phrases the article
use and being careful when using words so that conflicts between people
or even nations will be reduce.
Totally agree!
